What issues, interests, or opportunities do you anticipate arising in your teaching in the near future? Is there a component of this issue, interest, or opportunity that relates to the use of digital technologies? What curriculum is related to this issue, interest or opportunity? What pedagogy might be useful for fostering learners' engagement and excitement?
Some of the things that I predict that will
arise in the near future includes, more usage of coding and robotics, the
creation of more makerspaces, the implementation of inquiry-based learning, the
reformation of the Dewey Decimal System, and the increased utilization of technological
mediums, such as social media, therefore requiring internet safety. The use of
technology is incorporated in inquiry-based learning, as different medium of
resources will need to be present. It can also be incorporated in the use of coding
and robotics. With the increase in social media and the usage of portable devices
such as cell phones and Ipads, I also see the incorporation of digital
technology for school/learning use. The links to curriculum would be those associated to ADST. As for pedagogy that might be useful for fostering learners' engagement and excitement, collaborative learning comes to mind.
The digital technology that I see as
enriching learning is robotics as it provides students with STEM skills and the
use of different techniques. It also provides early engineering skills and
fosters curiosity for those who later pursue things such as coding and
robotics. Cell phones, with an ever-growing rate of teenagers owning them, can
also be implemented to enrich learning via learning apps, games and online resource
findings (research articles). Social media can also enrich learning if utilized
correctly, such as following politicians on twitter to research their views. With
this increase in digital media however, emergences concern, such as the keyword
internet safety. Other key words would include inquiry based learning, and social media.
Drawing from the key words pertaining to your curriculum, pedagogy, and digital technology, make a list of possible topics you might need to broaden your understanding of this area of interest.
My professional practice previously was
that of a high school teacher who saw the growth in social media and the use of
cell phones, so one of the topics of interest for me was that of social media
in education which would address the media literacy component. Another topic of
interest would be internet safety and in particular cyber bullying, which addresses
information ethics. Finally, as I am learning more about inquiry based learning
in the learning commons, I would considering exploring the use/implementation of
technology for inquiry based learning projects.
This is a good first post. You addressed all the key questions and provided rationale and personal context for the keywords you have generated for further reading and research. I am interested to see where your learning takes you. In your next post you may want to consider adding multimedia elements such as hyperlinks or images. These enhance the reading experience for your audience.
